SiteImprove

Login to SiteImprove at http://www.siteimprove.com, using the Login button at the top right.

Your email will be your wlu.edu email address.

Click on "Quality Assurance" in the blue navigation bar at the top of the page.

Underneath the blue navigation bar, choose your department from the Groups menu.

You will be taken to your QA Overview page, which lists broken links and confirmed or potential spelling errors on your portion of the website.

About the QA Overview

The QA Overview page will reflect the broken links and misspellings on your site as of the last site crawl, which takes place every five days.

  • You can generate a report from this page by choosing either PDF or HTML in the Generate QA Report section.
  • You can check a single page by entering the URL in the Single Page Check box.
  • You can also kick off a new, full check of your website at any time using the "Recheck Pages in Your Group" button at the bottom left corner of the page. Depending on the size of your site, the new crawl will take anywhere from 5-45 minutes.

Broken Links:

  • Click on "Links" in the left navigation menu to view the pages on your site with broken links.
  • Click on the magnifying glass icon next to the page name to see the broken link in context.
  • Click on the page name itself to see a summary of broken links and misspellings on that particular page.

Spell Check

  • Click on "Spelling" in the left navigation menu to view pages on your site with misspellings.
  • Click on the magnifying glass icon next to the page name to see the misspelling in context.
  • Click on the page name itself to see a summary of broken links and misspellings on that particular page.

Word List Feature

One of the hidden gems of SiteImprove is its ability to find references to a word or name within our site or a section thereof.  For example, if a staff member in your department leaves the University, you can use this feature to find all references to that person so that you can remove him or her from your site.

  • Click on "Word List" in the Spelling menu.
  • Type in the name or word you're looking for (phrases don't work) in the Word List search box. (NOT the main Search in QA box at the very top right.)
  • Click on the magnifying glass icon to search. You will get a list of words that match or contain your search term on your site.
  • Hover over the word and click on "View List" to see all pages containing the word.
  • Click on "URL" in the Show menu at the top of the list to see a list of URLs containing the word.
  • Click on the arrow icon at the far right of each row to open the page and show the word in context.

Making Corrections

While SiteImprove is great for helping to identify broken links, misspellings and unwanted references, you need to log into Ingeniux to actually make the changes on your site. We recommend opening SiteImprove and Ingeniux simultaneously in separate browser tabs or windows in order to move through the changes quickly.
