Our Commitment to Civil Engagement:

Washington and Lee (W&L) welcomes constructive dialogue its social media sites and reserves the right to review all comments and will remove any that are inappropriate, including but not limited to comments that fall into the following categories:

  • Profanity: Please refrain from using obscene language in your comments.
  • Personal attacks: Criticism of the authors, subjects, or other commenters may result in an immediate ban from this page. We welcome various viewpoints, so long as they are respectful of others. Bullying, discrimination, harassment, threat of violence and other inappropriate or unlawful conduct will not be tolerated.
  • Unsolicited advertising (SPAM)
  • Graphics and memes
  • Posts that are irrelevant to the topic 
  • Trolling: Any comments that appear intended to send the discussion in an unproductive direction.
  • Repetitive posting: Posting with such frequency or repetitiveness that others may be discouraged from posting comments.

We understand that social media is a 24/7 medium; however, our moderation capabilities are not. We may not see every inappropriate comment immediately, and we encourage our community to ignore personal attacks and negative speech or to respond politely.

The page administrators reserve the right to delete or mark as spam any and all comments. They also have the right to block access to anyone from posting to our pages. Opinions expressed in public comments do not reflect official positions of Washington and Lee University. Any information posted here is considered public information and may be subject to monitoring, moderation or disclosure to third parties.
