Four Credits, EXP
Four weeks in China
Professors Yanhong Zhu and Chris Elford

The STA China program is designed to introduce Chinese language and culture to students with or without prior experience in Chinese. By integrating language instruction with immersive
cultural experiences, the program aims to provide students with firsthand exposure to China's rich history, traditions, and modern society.
Based in Shanghai, China's largest and most developed metropolis, the program is hosted at East China Normal University, where students attend rigorous language courses in the morning and participate in immersive cultural activities or workshops in the afternoon. A key feature of the program is the "City Walk" sessions -- guided walking tours that allow students to explore
Shanghai's diverse neighborhoods, visit historical landmarks, and engage with local communities.
Beyond Shanghai, students will take part in field trips to nearby towns and cities, deepening their understanding of regional cultural diversity.
Additionally, the program includes an excursion to Beijing, where students will experience iconic historical sites such as the Great Wall and the Forbidden City.
Program fee (paid to W&L): $3,266
Includes programming, room, some meals (~4 breakfasts, ~7 lunches, ~1 dinner), and most in-country transportation.
Additional costs: airfare, most meals, cell phone, spending money, passport, and visa fees.
