JAPN 100, 115, 265, 365 – Japanese Language and Culture Study Supervised Study Abroad

The 2025 STA to Japan will be located in Chiba, Tokyo. Students will live with homestay families and will take Japanese language classes in the morning with additional lectures by Professor Ikeda. Afternoons will be devoted to special activities such as a trip to Asakusa, Meiji Shrine, a cooking school,  Sumo wresling, Kabuki performance, a sushi workshop, a day trip to Kamakura, and a meeting with Japanese university students. We will visit numerous cultural sites in and around Tokyo. The Japan program begins in country on April 25th and ends on May 24th. Late arrivals or early departures cannot be accommodated.

Students interested in taking this STA are encouraged to make an appointment with Professor Ikeda (ikedaj@wlu.edu). Priority is given to students in JAPN classes who have not travelled extensively to Japan. 

Program fee (Paid to W&L): $4,721
Includes programming, fees, and room. Students will stay in a homestay where breakfast and dinner will be offered every day.

Additional costs: airfare, in-country personal transportation ~$110 (will vary by homestay location), most lunches, cell phone, spending money, homestay gift (~$30), passport, and visa fees (if applicable).
