FILM 251 -Women and Children in Ghana, Creating Field Documentary

Four weeks in Ghana

For one month travel throughout Ghana and work with aid organizations, learning about women and children's issues through creating field documentary. Each student will learn a tremendous amount about development in Ghana as well as learning how to effectively create a documentary film. Together, as a class, we will shoot two to three short documentaries while working in partnership with Ghanaian aid organizations and non-governmental organizations. You will leave the class with an entirely new perspective about the world. No film experience is necessary as we will teach you all you need to know.
No prerequisites, but there is a one semester hour winter term course to prepare for the experience in Ghana. FILM 251 fulfills FDR HA. This course also fulfills an elective credit in the Shepherd Program for the Interdisciplinary Study of Poverty and Human Capability.
Program fee (paid to W&L): $5,191 This fee includes: lodging, airfare, most meals, all ground transportation, site visits, entrance fees, and program fees.
Estimated Additional Expenses: Meals ($200) inoculations and malaria medication ($250-300), passport (if applicable), visa ($100) cell phone, and spending money.
