FRANCE. Spend two weeks at W&L immersed in the literary works of black writers of the Harlem Renaissance and the mid-twentieth-century period. Then travel to Paris and dedicate two weeks to exploring the city that spurred black writers to examine modern racial identity.

General Information Meeting: Monday, Oct. 7, 2019 at 6:30 pm in the Stackhouse Theater, followed by breakout sessions with faculty directors. Applications open on October 8 and are due by 4:00 pm on Oct. 25, 2019. You may apply for up to two courses but please indicate clearly in the application questionnaire if it is your first or second choice.

THE NETHERLANDS. This course involves a survey of 17th-century Dutch history, art history, etc., which links the scientific analysis to the art and culture of the time.
FRANCE. How have history and photography aligned to shape Parisian life and Parisian spaces? How can we use photography to observe the city's changing landscape as well as understand its rich past?
DENMARK. The course uses corporate strategy as a means to explore the interplay between business, government, and the individual citizen as agents for social change.
SCANDINAVIA. This course takes a theoretical and practical look at why and how social innovation has flourished in Scandinavia
DENMARK. This is a project-based course that further explores the concepts of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability as practiced in Denmark, regarded as one of the most progressive economies.
UNITED KINGDOM. The objective of the course is to give the student insight into the progression of the United Kingdom economy over the past 40 years.
SCANDINAVIA. This course exlores childhood in Scandinavia and the United States.
This course will engage the music, folklore, and literature of Ireland and ways that the creation of these art forms is related to the places in which the art was created.
THE UNITED KINGDOM. Study Shakespeare from both literary and theatrical perspectives. See performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Globe Theatre Company. Participate in workshops with scholars and artists.
GHANA. Travel throughout Ghana and work with aid organizations, learning about women and children's issues through creating field documentary
FRANCE. This course is taught entirely in the southern French city Toulouse and will use contemporary French cinema as a platform for discussion, debate, and advanced grammar review.
GREECE. In this course, students will explore the diverse geology of Greece with a particular emphasis on the regional tectonics.
KYRGYZSTAN. Examine the political, economic, social, cultural, and religious change from the beginning of Kyrgyzstan's recorded history through the Russian imperial era, the Soviet period, and the first quarter-century of the nation's independence.
An exploration of the social, religious, historical, and political foundations of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
JAPAN. Japanese language and culture study. Students will spend four weeks in Kanazawa studying Japanese in the morning and participating in cultural activities in the afternoon.
PORTUGAL. Study the Portuguese route to Santiago and then walk the 143 miles from Porto to Santiago de Compostela, to the shrine of St. James the Greater, brother of John the Apostle.
SPAIN. This course offers students a unique opportunity to improve their communication skills in the Spanish language by interacting with native speakers on a daily basis and understanding some of the cultural elements that define Spanish society today.
ARGENTINA and URUGUAY. Taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Montevideo, Uruguay, this course explores the ways identities emerge and transform across time.
