Beginning Chinese (CHIN 105/CHIN 103). Designed to introduce Chinese language and culture to students with little or no previous Chinese background. Instructor consent.
First-year Chinese (CHIN 115/CHIN 113). Designed to improve oral proficiency and to introduce various aspects of Chinese culture in preparation for second-year Chinese. Prerequisite: CHIN 112 and instructor consent.
Second-year Chinese (CHIN 265/CHIN 263). Designed to further improve oral proficiency and to introduce various aspects of Chinese culture in preparation for third-year Chinese. Prerequisite: CHIN 261 or 262 and instructor consent.
CHIN 365/CHIN 363: Designed to further improve oral proficiency and to introduce various aspects of Chinese culture in preparation for fourth-year Chinese. Prerequisite: instructor consent.
All classes will be held at the International School of Chinese Studies at East China Normal University in Shanghai. They will combine language learning with various cultural activities, which will provide students with firsthand experience of the development of contemporary China. The program includes field trips to points of historical interest and many cultural activities
Program Fee (paid to W&L): 6 weeks - $3,950; 4 weeks - $2,600. This includes visa fee, tuition, accommodation, local transportation in China and cost for field trips and a final cultural tour.
Estimated Additional Expenses: Airfare - $1500-$1700; meals at ECNU dining halls - $11/13 per day; personal spending money.
