ACCT 371 - Tax Service Learning in South Africa is service learning course which culminates in a 10-day trip to South Africa to conduct training workshops on SEC reporting requirements for financial statements related to the income taxes of U.S. multinational corporations. The specific class topics will include: international tax planning strategies, SEC reporting requirements, attorney-client privilege, ASC 740, and tax social justice. While on campus, students will develop the workshop training materials through a series of research projects and homework assignments. While in South Africa, the students will conduct two workshops and as well as participate in activities designed to foster a deeper understanding of South Africa's culture, history, ecology and business environment.
The course does not meet FDR or major requirements.
Program Fee (paid to W&L): $4,400. This fee includes airfare, ground transportation, accommodation, group meals and other activity fees.
Estimated Additional Expenses: $300 (meals and spending money).
