The course uses corporate strategy as a means to explore the interplay between business, government, and the individual citizen as agents for social change. Cross-cultural variation in the relative role of the various players in addressing such issues is considered. Students will have an opportunity to compare and contrast U.S. practices and perceptions of these issues with those of Danes, considered by many to be among the most progressive on these matters. Students will be introduced to the concept of "the trip bottom line" and consider the responsibility of business, as well as that of government and other organizations, in each of three areas (people, planet, profit).

The course is a First-year Seminar - no prerequisites, but ACCT 201 (offered in Winter 2013) is recommended.

Program Fee (paid to W&L): $2,500 (includes lodging, ground transportation for class activities, some meals, access to classrooms/PC labs).

Estimated Additional Expenses: Airfare - $900-$1200; personal spending money - $500
