BUS 180: International Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Denmark

The course uses corporate strategy as a means to explore the interplay between business, government, and the individual citizen as agents for social change. Cross-cultural variation in the relative role of the various players in addressing such issues is considered. Students will have an opportunity to compare and contrast U.S. practices and perceptions of these issues with those of Danes, considered by many to be among the most progressive on these matters. Students will be introduced to the concept of "the triple bottom line" and consider the responsibility of business, as well as that of government and other organizations, in each of the three areas (people, planet, profit).

The course is a first-year seminar - no pre-requisites, but ACCT 201 (offered in Winter Term) is recommended.

Program Fee: (paid to W&L) $2,200 includes: accommodation with host family, two family meals plus a lunch pack each day; local transportation from host family to DIS; cell phone rental; airport pick-up, field trips and guest lectures.

Other Estimated Expenses: $1,500, including airfare, miscellaneous meals as students explore Copenhagen, parking fees at Dulles, cell phone usage, optional weekend trips.

Mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation: Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 7 p.m. in Northen Auditorium, Leyburn Library.
