Ali Hamed Class of 2013 - Jordan

What I like best about Washington and Lee is that it is a small community where everyone accepts you for who you are as a member of their community or even their family. I have never felt pressure or discomfort as a Muslim. People are actually interested in my background, what it is like to be a Muslim and Arab, are respectful, and see our shared interests. It has been very easy to make friends. The Engineering Department is small, so you get to do research and participate in labs. I especially like the opportunity to double major in both Engineering and something totally different, like Economics. You might not get a chance to do that at other schools.
