Opportunities for Students

Project Horizon

Project Horizon is a non-profit agency dedicated to reducing domestic, sexual and dating violence. They offer free crisis intervention, legal advocacy, and counseling services to survivors confidentially. Educational programs are also presented in our schools and community.

Trained volunteers play a vital role in the Rockbridge area community by providing emotional support through our 24-hour hotline, covering the 5-8 pm shift Monday through Friday.

To become a volunteer, you must submit an application, undergo an interview, and attend either the fall or winter classroom training. Training must only be completed one time.

In addition to answering the Project Horizon hotline, volunteers also provide support for shelter residents, and provide tutoring and childcare. Flexible hours and positions are available according to the interests of potential volunteers.

As Judy Casteele, Executive Director, says "Project Horizon began as an all-volunteer organization and, 30 years later, volunteers are still an integral part of our service delivery efforts. Because of the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, we are able to provide support for victims of domestic and sexual violence 24-hours a day. Volunteers don't merely supplement the work of our paid staff, they are an important part of the solution to working to end violence in our community.
