5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Jefferson Street Dance Studio

Steve Wei (they/he) has been a Philadelphia-based fight director, choreographer, performer and instructor for over a decade. They are devoted to an artistic culture promoting the ethical production of dramatic violence, and are a passionate practitioner of activism-based artistry. Steve has performed in dozens of productions in the Greater Philadelphia Area, and helped create fights for many more. Their educational work has reached students of all ages, from kindergarten through graduate and professional studies, and spanned the continent from their hometown in Pennsylvania, to Houston, to British Columbia.

Wei's workshop will address the challenges of choreographing physical interactions on stage. In telling stories of violence, we are invariably calling on actors to interact in personal, if not intimate ways. In high-performance environments, product can often unintentionally precede process, and personal boundaries and touch can easily be taken for granted. Workshop participants can expect to break down the process of embodying ethical partnered movement, through practical communication, practice, and exploration. Come prepared to move!
