Student Opportunities

Blue Bikes

The Blue Bike program at Washington and Lee is designed to provide a convenient way to get around the campus and Lexington. The use of bicycles instead of motor vehicles results in cleaner air and better health, less traffic and more open parking spaces, less oil consumed and fewer greenhouse gases emitted.

Service Learning

The Environmental Studies Program offers service learning courses each semester. These one credit courses engage students in serving the Rockbridge community through their coursework, which combines teaching, learning, and reflecting. Topics have included environmental education, regional conservation issues and sustainable and community supported agriculture.

Student Organizations

Washington and Lee is proud to have so many organizations on campus that support, celebrate and bring awareness to diversity in our community and beyond. The organizations listed here are made up of students passionate about sustainability on campus and in the community.

Sustainability House

The Sustainability House provides a strong living and learning community for students with a common interest in understanding and acting upon a broad range of sustainability-related issues. The students living there have two main goals: to live communally and explore ways to minimize human negative impacts on the natural environment, and to offer education and information to the campus community.
