Exhibit Reception & Curator's Talk by Emily Smith:  January 16, 5:30, Wilson Hall's Concert Hall

Guest curated by Emily Smith, the Director of 1708 Gallery in Richmond, this group exhibition features work by recent graduates of Virginia Commonwealth University's Graduate School of the Arts. As one of the top-ranked graduate art programs in the country, recipients of master's degrees from VCU's School of the Arts are all working at the leading edge of contemporary art, demonstrating an acute awareness of current art practices and ideas even as they push against these boundaries. The artists selected for this exhibition possess shared sensibilities regarding a commitment to humanism and an intimacy with one's practice. Working in a range of media, they each express an interest in the sublime and attention to the performative aspects of art making. This exhibition offers the exciting opportunity to see the work of talented young artists on the brink of their careers in the art world.
