About The Exhibition

This exhibition celebrates the career of Kathleen Olson, W&L's Pamela H. Simpson Professor of Art, upon the occasion of her retirement. In her 34 years in the art department, Olson taught painting and drawing and established the popular Drawing Italy class, bringing students to Italy for several weeks in the spring term for an immersive experience in art and culture. Olson's work is inspired by her travels, which have taken her to paint in the South of France, Greece, and Italy. Since earning her MFA in Painting at Yale, Olson has exhibited her work in numerous exhibitions. In 2007 and 2005 she had solo exhibitions at the Accademia dell’ Arte in Arezzo, Italy. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants including a Hewlett-Mellon Fellowship; the Ford Foundation Grant; Artist in Residence, The National Centre Frans Masereel, Kasterlee, Belguim; Visiting Fellow, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.
