Faculty Antiracist Plan Committee

As stipulated by the ‘W&L Faculty Antiracist Plan of Action for Systemic Change,' the faculty "will elect an ad-hoc
committee comprising at least three members of the Black faculty and one member each from The College, the
Law School, and the Williams School."

Recommendation (Composition, Membership Terms, and Election Procedure)
Members of the FAPC serve for two-year staggered terms.
* FAPC members will elect a FAPC chair annually; the FAPC Chair may serve for no more than two consecutive years.

The membership of the committee is as follows:

  • Four members elected from the Black faculty: 2 from the College, 1 from the Williams School, and 1 from the Law School. However, if there is not a sufficient pool of willing and able candidates in any division, the current committee members should choose enough candidates to fill the remaining spots, prioritizing first Black candidates (regardless of division), and then other faculty of color.
  • Three members elected without regard to race/ethnicity: 1 from the College, I from the Williams School, and 1 from the Law school.
  • In cases where a sitting committee member is unable to continue, the current committee members should choose a replacement, prioritizing the broad racial composition of the committee over the divisional composition.

Current Committee Membership
Michael Hill (College), Chair, 2021-2023
TBD (Williams School) - 2021-2023
Carliss Chatman (Law School) - 2021-2023
Mohamed Kamara (College) - 2021-2023
Pooja Thakur-Wernz (Williams School) - 2022-2024
TBD (Law School) - 2022-2024
Marcos Perez (College) - 2022-2024

Committee Charge
As stipulated by the ‘W&L Faculty Antiracist Plan of Action for Systemic Change,' "The ad-hoc committee will
prioritize the goals set forth by the faculty and propose ways of accomplishing them, including but not limited to
identifying partners for the faculty to achieve the goals. The committee will report back to the faculty biannually on
the University's progress toward meeting these goals."

Recommendation

  • Once elected, the FAPC will determine approaches, methods, and practices that will best allow it to carry out its work.
  • The FAPC meets at least once per month during the academic year and may convene itself for other meetings when it considers it necessary to do so.
  • The FAPC will remain active until the faculty assembly deems its work complete.

*After the elections, the committee will draw lots to determine who will serve for initial one- and two-year terms, while
respecting as much as possible the committee's intended structure.
