Student Opportunities

The Museums at W&L provide several opportunities for Washington and Lee students to learn about museums by working with the Reeves Collection, the Lee Chapel, or the Art Collection.

Summer Internship in Museum Work

The Museums at W&L offer a eight week paid summer internship to currently enrolled students. The program provides W&L students in any discipline an introduction to basic museum policies and practices through hands on experience with the collection.

Thomas V. Litzenburg Jr. Prize

The Thomas V. Litzenburg Jr. Prize was created by the Reeves Center in 2004. The award is made annually, at the discretion of the University Collections staff in consultation with the Art Department or another relevant department, to the student who submits the best paper on artwork in the Collections.

Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies Minor

The department of Art and Art History offers a Minor in Cultural Heritage and Museum Studies. In support of the minor, UCAH staff works closely with the department and offers a course in Chinese Export Porcelain and the China Trade, 1500 to 1900, and a Seminar in Museum Studies. We also assist with arts management and science in art courses when appropriate.

Related Careers

W&L students who have interned with UCAH at the Reeves Center, with the Art Collections, or with the Lee Chapel & Museum have gone on to graduate school and careers in many different disciplines.
