Mission Statement

The Museums at Washington and Lee University (Museums at W&L) advance learning through direct engagement with collections, stimulates appreciation of global cultures, and inspires leadership in the arts and sciences.

Supporting this over-arching mission, the Lee Chapel & Museum and the Reeves Center serve distinctive purposes:

  • The Lee Chapel & Museum promotes the values of learning, honor, and character by interpreting the University’s history and the contributions of its namesakes, George Washington and Robert E. Lee, to education and the nation.
  • The Reeves Center advances understanding and appreciation of human history through the study of ceramic production, decoration, use and trade.
