Michael Hill, professor and chair of the Africana Studies program at Washington and Lee University, is the inaugural director of the DeLaney Center. Hill has a B.A. from Howard University, and an M.A. and a Ph.D. in English and American Literature and Language from Harvard University. Hill joined W&L in 2018 as a professor of Africana Studies following 12 years as a professor of African American Studies and English at the University of lowa. He previously taught American and African American literature at Wake Forest University.
