2015 Survey Results

In February 2015, all staff and faculty at Washington and Lee University were invited to participate in a third customized campus climate survey. This survey, which has been conducted every three years since 2009, was conducted by an independent research firm, ModernThink, which gathers data for The Chronicle of Higher Education's Great Colleges to Work Program.

Fifty-two percent of the University community participated in the survey. Results were shared on September 15, 2015, during an open session. This PowerPoint presentation and key reports are also now available on this website. A complete list of available reports is also listed below. Please contact Anne Remington to obtain printed copies of specific reports.

Employee Comments

The Employee Comments Report provides additional insight into the experience of faculty, administration and staff. When employees completed the Campus Climate Survey they were asked three open-ended questions:

  1. What do you appreciate most about working at Washington and Lee University?
  2. What would make this institution a better place to work?
  3. What three things could be done to enhance inclusiveness and mutual respect on our campus?

Responses to these three questions are detailed in this report. To encourage honest, candid feedback and protect the anonymity of individual respondents we advised employees not to include any self-identifying information. We have presented the comments exactly as they were provided to us. Typographical errors, grammatical errors and misspellings have not been corrected. We have redacted a total of eight sentences, included in five comments, which contained proper names or other identifying information. All references to the President of the University and other senior administrators were left as written. The redacted proper names were individual University employees who do not hold senior administrative posts. The responses are organized by Job Category.
