Transition Allowance
If you were offered Transition Allowance funds as part of your hiring agreement, the Dean or Vice President will notify the Human Resources of your intent to move to Lexington and the amount of your transition allowance. You are free to use any moving company or move yourself through a vehicle rental company. You must make arrangements with the company to provide payment to them. The University will issue the agreed upon transition payment in the first payroll following your start date, less applicable taxes.
If you would prefer to have W&L guarantee the moving company expense, you may use one of the two companies listed below. W&L will not guarantee payment to any other provider.

Once you have received the estimate from a mover listed above, please forward it to Suzannah Vess in Human Resources, either by e-mail (svess@wlu.edu) or fax (540-458-8060). Using either of these two companies will ensure that the University is direct billed for the costs of the move. The amount paid to the moving company will be deducted from your transition allowance, less applicable taxes. In the event your transition allowance does not cover the cost paid to Armstrong or Lawrence Moving Company, you will be responsible for the balance due. The balance of transition allowance funds will be paid in the first paycheck following W&L's receipt of a bill from Armstrong Relocation or Lawrence Transportation Systems/United.
When arranging for the movers, please inform the movers that trucks over 65 feet in length are prohibited in the City of Lexington. Lexington's streets and area streets are narrow and may involve steep inclines. Prospective movers should consider the possibility that shuttle vans may be required for the final steps of the move and include this possibility in their estimates.
If you have any questions or require any additional information, please contact Suzannah Vess in Human Resources at svess@wlu.edu, 540-458-8348.
