W&L Covid-19 Update – Faculty, Staff and Students
To: W&L Faculty, Staff and Students
From: COVID-19 Committee
Date: Wednesday, April 13
As we wrap up Winter Term and head into Spring Break, we want to thank you for all you've done to make this a safe term. We were pleased to be able to relax the indoor masking expectation last month. Since the number of active cases on campus remains low at this time, masking will continue to be optional in indoor spaces on campus with two important exceptions:
- Masks continue to be required in the Student Health Center.
- Faculty and staff may choose to require masks in their individual offices.
Faculty who currently have HR-approved exemptions that allow for requiring students to mask in classrooms or for teaching virtually may continue to do so. Faculty without such exemptions are asked to allow students to be unmasked in the classroom.
Please continue to be mindful that some members of our community will feel more comfortable wearing masks and distancing. We should all continue to be kind and respectful of others' decisions to mask or not.
During Spring Term, the university will continue to ask unvaccinated students, faculty, and staff with exemptions to obtain an on-campus COVID-19 PCR test weekly, and we will continue to offer optional on-campus PCR testing weekly for all fully vaccinated faculty and staff who would like to be tested and are not experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
For students who are travelling over the break, we recommend taking a COVID-19 test before returning to campus. If you test positive before returning, please stay home, do not return to campus during your isolation period, and communicate your positive test result to COVID19Care@wlu.edu.
We continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19, particular as the highly contagious BA.2 variant becomes the dominant strain the U.S., and will act accordingly.
