Update for Fall Term - Law Students
To: W&L Law Students
From: Trenya Mason, Assistant Dean of Law Student Affairs
Date: Wednesday, November 18
Below is this week's update on the university's response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which will be the final regular update for the Fall Term. Please continue to check the COVID-19 Resources website for the latest campus messages and resources, and to submit your questions to email@example.com.
Pre-Departure COVID-19 Testing
Pre-departure COVID-19 testing has concluded at W&L's on-campus clinic, but VMI and VDH are hosting a free drive-through COVID-19 testing clinic in the Marshall Hall parking lot on VMI post on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 2 - 6 p.m. Pre-registration is highly encouraged and can be completed at https://www.doineedacovid19test.com. Participants need to be at least 17 years old and do not need to be symptomatic to be tested. Results will be provided in an online portal, typically within 3-5 days. Visitors should access VMI post via Letcher Ave. and follow signage to the testing site.
Note: A negative COVID-19 test reflects your status only on the day the sample was collected. Even if your test is negative, you could potentially still be at risk from a previous or subsequent exposure, as COVID-19 can take between 2 and 14 days to develop.
Reminder - Daily Attestation
Once you leave campus for the break, you will no longer need to complete the Daily Attestation. Information about the Daily Attestation for next term will be communicated in December.
University Shuttle Service to Regional Airports
The W&L Traveller program offers shuttle service to/from the Roanoke Airport and the East Falls Church Transit Center in Arlington, VA., with easy connections to Washington, D.C. and Baltimore area airports. (Shuttles are available for W&L students only.) End of Fall Term shuttle drop-off dates and other transportation information are available on the Transportation Services website. You can select 7 a.m. or 12 p.m. departure times from either Lee Chapel or E. Denny Garage. If you have questions, please contact Laura Campbell.
Reminder - January Arrival Testing and Quarantine
- All students will be expected to quarantine for 14 days prior to their arrival on campus. Once the 14-day quarantine period is complete, and if you have no COVID-19 symptoms and no known exposure to COVID-19, you may travel to campus. While in transit, you are expected to maintain physical distancing, wear face coverings, practice frequent handwashing, and follow all applicable Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
- Mandatory arrival COVID-19 testing for law students for Winter Term will be offered on Jan. 11 and Jan. 15, 2021. Students can expect to receive more information about appointment scheduling in December.
Caught You! (doing the right thing, that is!)
Public Safety is wrapping up its weekly recognition raffle program to "catch" students doing the right things (e.g., physical distancing, wearing face coverings) this term. Public safety officers have been recognizing students on the spot for COVID-safe behaviors, and handing out raffle tickets for great prizes. Congratulations to Courtney Blinn ‘22L, Christina Fallon ‘23L and Louis Rogers ‘23L who were among the among the most recent raffle winners.
Reminder - Get Your Seasonal Flu Shot Before the Holidays
Free flu shots remain available by appointment at the Student Health Center (SHC) during open hours, except 12-1 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. daily. Please call ahead for a nurse appointment as there are no walk ins for flu shots at the SHC.
For reference, the Student Health Center will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 24 for the winter break. The SHC will be open from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 23 and Tuesday, Nov, 24, but will close overnight care services at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22. The SHC will reopen for clinical services at 9 a.m. on Monday, January 11, 2021. After-hours/overnight services at the SHC will resume Jan. 12, 2021. In addition, W&L will offer flu vaccinations in conjunction with the COVID-19 arrival testing during the week of Jan. 11, 2021 for those students who have not yet received a flu shot for this season.
