Weekly COVID-19 Committee Update - Faculty and Staff
To: W&L Faculty and Staff
From: COVID-19 Committee
Date: Tuesday, September 29
Below is this week's update on the university's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please remember to check the COVID-19 Resources website for the latest campus messages, resources, and FAQs that are being updated regularly, and to submit your questions to email@example.com.
Student Conduct Sanctions
Today, eight students were sent letters requiring them to move to all-virtual instruction for the remainder of the term as a result of an off-campus event held earlier this month, to which a significant number of recent COVID cases can be tied. Another 50 students are receiving conduct probation and a fine, as a result of the same event.
As a reminder, COVID-related student conduct data are being made available to interested faculty and staff. The data, along with information about how COVID-related charges are being handled, will be updated regularly and can be found on Box in the file: Student Conduct at W&L During COVID. For questions, please contact Tammi Simpson.
Travel Update: Winter Break
All personal travel continues to be strongly discouraged through the end of Fall Term. Inform your supervisor or department head of all travel plans, regardless of location. Given the current spread of COVID-19, you should expect a 14-day self-quarantine requirement upon your return. We have started to receive questions about personal travel during winter break. While we do not anticipate restrictions on personal travel during the break, faculty and staff who travel during that time will need to plan ahead to quarantine for 14 days after returning, and before resuming work on campus.
Reminder: Reviewing Students' and Employees' Daily Attestations
In addition to doing one's own daily attestation, it's an important safety measure for faculty and supervisors to check their students' and employees' attestations daily. To check others' attestation status, log into the attestation webpage at attest.wlu.edu. Click on the Faculty/Staff link at the top of the application and review each individuals' status in the Attest column. For more information and detailed instructions, visit the Daily Attestation How-To Website.
Reminder: Rockbridge Area Health Center COVID-19 Testing
The Rockbridge Area Health Center (RAHC) is now offering COVID-19 testing. If you are not experiencing symptoms, you do not have to be an established patient of the RAHC to be tested. Individuals without symptoms can call 540-464-8700 to speak with RAHC's COVID Testing Coordinator to schedule testing. Insurance will be billed, and test result turnaround time is 2-5 days.
Individuals with possible COVID-19 symptoms should schedule an appointment with their primary care physician, or register as an RAHC patient. Registration, as well as signing releases to get records from previous providers, should be done on the RAHC's website before scheduling a medical visit and testing appointment.
