Weekly COVID-19 Committee Update - Faculty and Staff

To: W&L Faculty and Staff
From: COVID-19 Committee
Date: Tuesday, September 15

Below is this week's update on the university's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Please remember to check the COVID-19 Resources website for the latest campus messages, resources, and FAQs that are being updated regularly, and to submit your questions to covid19@wlu.edu.

Environment Level Indicator Change

On Sept. 14, the COVID-19 Committee changed the environment level from yellow-middle to yellow-high based on an increase in cases, continued lack of compliance with social distancing, face coverings, and expectations for social gatherings, and increased pressure on the university's COVID resources. Read the full message under Community Updates. As a reminder, testing data can be found on W&L's COVID-19 Testing Dashboard.

Please note that the limits on gathering size do not apply to academic settings/classrooms. They do, however, apply to department gatherings outside of class, such as faculty/student receptions or department picnics. These gatherings need to stay below the capacity limit, both indoors and outdoors, and cannot have catered or shared food (i.e. potluck). Brown-bag type meals are allowed.

Employee Health and Wellness

Our dedicated faculty and staff are often focused on the health and wellbeing of our students. During this challenging time when our employees are working differently - and often harder - than usual, we'd like to remind you to take care of yourselves as well. The Carilion Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a free, confidential service provided by W&L to assist employees and their families with concerns or problems. These can include but are not limited to stress management, substance abuse, depression, anger, anxiety and grief both at work and at home. Also check the Human Resources website for information on the university's Work/Life Initiatives and Wellness program.

Reminder: Travel

All personal travel is strongly discouraged. Inform your supervisor or department head of all travel plans, regardless of location. Given the current spread of COVID-19, you should expect a 14-day self-quarantine requirement upon your return.

Reminder: Reviewing Students' and Employees' Daily Attestations

In addition to doing one's own daily attestation, it's an important safety measure for faculty and supervisors to check their students' and employees' attestations daily. To check others' attestation status, log into the attestation webpage at attest.wlu.edu. Click on the Faculty/Staff link at the top of the application and review each individuals' status in the Attest column. For more information and detailed instructions, visit the Daily Attestation How-To Website.

Reminder: Student Conduct Data

COVID-related student conduct data are being made available to interested faculty and staff. The data, along with information about how COVID-related charges are being handled, will be updated regularly and can be found on Box in the file: Student Conduct at W&L During COVID. For questions, please contact Tammi Simpson.
